Frequently Asked Questions

HOW DO I BOOK AN APPOINTMENT?

We work by appointment only; sorry, but we do not take walk-ins. Getting a custom tattoo is a life commitment, and both the client and artist need to be completely on the same page.

Because this creative process takes time, I handle all of my consultations digitally (via text, email, or Instagram DM). I do this to respect your time—when you are in my chair, you deserve my 100% undivided focus. Handling consultations digitally ensures I never cut into a booked client's scheduled tattoo time to talk to someone else.

To get started on your journey, simply fill out the Book Now form on this page with your details and reference photos, or send a DM on Instagram to @Skeety_Johnson. We'll discuss your vision, make sure my art style is the perfect fit, and then lock in your appointment!

HOW OLD DO I HAVE TO BE TO GET A TATTOO?

Although Florida does permit tattoos to 16 year olds with parental consent, we only work on clients over the age of 18. Getting Tattooed with one of my art pieces is a lifetime commitment and deserves to be valued in that respect. Therefore, you must be at least 18 years of age to receive one of my artworks. Please bring a valid State or Federal Photo ID. No exceptions.

HOW SHOULD I PREPARE FOR MY TATTOO?

Come to the appointment well-fed and rested. Make sure you arrive at the agreed upon time too! Remember to stay hydrated. If you start to feel woozy, have a soda or a salty snack ready. Sugar and salt are your friends in this situation! Walking around in the Florida sun all day in the summer, without drinking any water and then coming to get tattooed on an empty stomach is a sure recipe for passing out. It’s also a good idea to use lotion on the skin up to 7 days before your appointment. I recommend Cerave ‘Rough & Bumpy skin’ which has a particular ingredient that will help keep your skin properly hydrated for the appointment. It’s best not to drink alcohol the night before because alcohol can increase bleeding for up to 24 hours. Blood also dilutes our pigments, affecting both the appearance of your tattoo as well as the healing process. Remember to stay calm and cool, you’re in good hands. There’s nothing to stress over—it’s just a tattoo! It’s a good idea to bring some headphones and your favorite songs/podcasts to zone out too. Tattoos can take a long time and while conversation is part of the process, I will need to spend a lot of time in (silent) concentration, so bring along something to stop yourself getting bored!

DOES IT HURT?

Yes! But in the best possible way. Your brain releases endorphins when you go through pain and your body loves endorphins, so yes, it hurts, but you’ll kinda like it.

HOW LONG DOES A TATTOO TAKE TO HEAL?

It takes two weeks to “heal,” but it takes months for the skin to fully regenerate.

WHAT FORMS OF PAYMENT ARE ACCEPTED?

We accept all major credit cards (Visa, Mastercard, Discover), No checks or American Express sorry.

DO I NEED TO LEAVE A DEPOSIT IF I DECIDE TO SCHEDULE AN APPOINTMENT?

After we’ve talked via phone, email or social media and you’re ready to take the next step, you’ll be obliged to pay a deposit to validate your commitment. Deposits are dependent on the type of tattoo, but are typically $600 +service fee/tax.

HOW DO I TAKE CARE OF THE TATTOO ONCE I'M HOME?

Tattoo aftercare is important. To ensure the best healing process, I highly recommend using Tattoo Armour aftercare pads, which protect your fresh tattoo and help prevent scabbing.

For the first few days, your tattoo will weep plasma and excess ink. You will need to leave your first pad on for 6 to 8 hours. (It is highly recommended to sleep with the pads on, as you move less and it keeps your bed clean!). To prevent irritation, you need to keep your body cool so you don’t sweat excessively under the pad (sorry, you’re gonna need to skip the gym for a week too).

When it's time to change the pad, remove it carefully with clean hands. Wash the skin area gently with Dial Gold soap (pump form, not bar soap), just gently washing away any bodily fluids and build-up. Then, pat the area completely dry with clean paper towels. Do not use a regular cloth towel, as they harbor bacteria. Don't wipe it aggressively either, as the skin will still be soft and one aggressive wipe could pull out ink and damage the tattoo.

Once dry, add a very thin coat of Aquaphor. The thinner the better—you don’t want to cake the Aquaphor on because it needs to breathe; over-moisturizing can slow down the healing process. Once the ointment is applied, place a fresh Tattoo Armour pad over the tattoo and secure it with tape.

Repeat this process—remove, wash, dry, apply thin ointment, and re-pad—every 6 to 8 hours until the pads start coming off completely clean. Once the pad comes off clean, it means the skin has sealed. You can now stop using the pads and simply apply a thin layer of Aquaphor as needed whenever the tattoo feels too dry or stiff (typically about 2 to 3 times a day for the next 10 to 14 days).
